PostSubject: What is Your Purpose for Joining This Forum?   Mon Jan 12, 2009 2:37 am

Greetings,

In this thread I want each of us to help each other find intersections in our purposes of contributing to this forum. We are not here to find areas of disagreement and conflicts of interest, but grounds for collaboration. So phrase your responses to that end, without compromising. Compromise is not our goal.

  • What goals in your life do you feel this forum helps you meet?
  • How does contributing to this forum assist your life's passion?
  • What concerns, or things that you see that might oppose your purpose, do you see?
  • What circumstances do you see that affect your goals and desires?

Regards,
Jay Lauser

What goals in your life do you feel this forum helps you meet?

Meeting people that I will later need for when I go into politics. Also to get my facts straight for when I go into politics, I will be grounded in what I believe and be able to defend what I believe.

How does contributing to this forum assist your life's passion?

As I said above, getting my facts straight and to be able to defend my faith effectively.

What concerns, or things that you see that might oppose your purpose, do you see?

The devil knows that I am planing to oppose him, and in turn is attacking more and more in strength. Its hard, but I am resisting so far. please pray that I will be able to continue resisting. And much of the world will be against me since they don't want Christians to change the government. And lastly, my self. If I don't get good grades, that might limit and in turn hinder the collage choices that God might want me to join.

What circumstances do you see that affect your goals and desires?

Like above, my self and the Devil.

My goal as a part of this forum is to figure out the answers to some of my questions about our nation and about politics and world policies in general. I also want to learn to phrase my ideas more clearly and to understand what other people are saying. In short, I want to practice my people skills here, since people are the main thing we have to deal with Very Happy .

I'm not sure I have a life's passion, other than Jesus. I want to grow closer to Him, and learn to use the gifts and interests he's given me in politics and foreign languages to His glory. I will likely have a career that utilizes both of these, specifically international diplomacy, so I want to learn more about politics and solidify my world view.

My main concern is probably that the World is against us, and that we have to find ways to fit in without compromising our beliefs and principals. I don't yet know how to do that, or how I should try to do that.

(1) What goals in your life do you feel this forum helps you meet?
My goals in life are to be influencial in the world, and to affect it for Christ. To be in the world, but not of it. I desire to, in whatever field I may end up in (although at the moment I would like to be in politics, I can't know where God will lead me), to work and labor for nothing more then Christ. For His glory. Not for money, not for fame, but simply to live my life in a way that gives everything to him.

(2) How does contributing to this forum assist your life's passion?
Contributing to this forum assists my life's passion, because it is a place where I can fellowship with other people who have the same ideals, same beliefs, and in some cases the same goals as I. Iron sharpens iron, and so is my reasoning behind joining.

(3)What concerns, or things that you see that might oppose your purpose, do you see?
The hatred of the world for good, and the general apathy of people: their neglectance to stand up and do anything. Although these could also be seen as beneficial, for it will make me stand out in whatever I do, as someone who is "breaking the mold". It all depends on what way you look at it...

(4) What circumstances do you see that affect your goals and desires?
I'm not going to let my life be affected by worldly circumstances. I will simply do what I feel God leads me to, and whatever comes my way for it, I'll deal with it.

My reasons for joining this forum would probably closely echo Jonathan's. I'm not really planning on pursuing a career in politics, but I believe the discussions had here will be beneficial to me later on in life.

What goals in your life do you feel this forum helps you meet?

I believe every Christian needs to constantly hone their mind. They constantly need to stimulate themselves intellectually because A) God is pleased when we seek to know more of Him and the world He has created, and B) many of our fiercest opponents are "intellectuals." On the battlefield of ideas, education, science, sociology, and politics is being waged a war that Christians must win. Forum's like this help us to hone our minds while still staying grounded in our faith, a function that is essential to our eventual victory.

How does contributing to this forum assist your life's passion?

My life’s motto is "veritas supra omnis" which basically means "above all truth." My mission in life is to proclaim truth with strength and humility. But, I am painfully aware of my own limitations and know that if I were to go at it in lone ranger fashion I probably be rendered ineffective in advocating the truth, or possibly even dangerous to the truth. That is why the counsel, thoughts and wisdom of others are so important, and that is why I am here. I hope to be strengthened and invigorated in my life's mission and likewise, such as I can, to strengthen and invigorate others in their Godly callings.

What concerns, or things that you see that might oppose your purpose, do you see?

I think that, on forums of this type, it is easy to form a mindset of intellectual snobbery and exclusivity. By that I mean, young Christians often excel in talk but fail in effective action. :-) I know this forum's founder(s) have taken precautions to help guard against that happening, but it is still something I believe we all need to guard against.

Also, it is easy to be filled with pride and to mishandle truth. Speaking bluntly, young people who have been well educated can be quite insufferable. :-( I see young people all the time that are so caught up in how right they are that they appear to be nothing but young idiots with a superiority complex that dribble on and on about something they know factually but are too foolish to actually understand. This is something I do not want to be and think needs to be guarded against. I believe humility and understanding are essential, and I hope that such words can/could be used to describe me.

Mark,

It is interesting, your motto, veritas supra omnis, is very much alike my alias: Sir Emeth Mimetes, truth follower. Welcome to the forum!

With joy and peace in Christ,
Jay Lauser

What goals in your life do you feel this forum helps you meet?

My goals in joining this forum are to cement my beliefs and values, to expand my knowledge in the Word of God and its meaning, and to join with a community of fellow believers who strive to live by Christ’s example. In all honesty, my future in life is not certain or really clear at all at this point. I have many dreams and many opportunities to fulfill those dreams. However, I want to be sure that I am following His plan and not my own in every way. Discernment is the key in this area but it is also a difficult task to accomplish.

How does contributing to this forum assist your life's passion?

My life’s passion is first and foremost to live by God’s will and to be a servant to both Him and everyone around me in everyway possible. But there is also a second life passion that I feel God wants me to develop and that is to teach others. He has placed in my heart a passion for teaching and for serving others. This forum helps in that manner by presenting me with opportunities to not only teach and serve but also to be a student and to learn from those around me.

What concerns, or things that you see that might oppose your purpose, do you see?
The main concern or impediment that I see opposing this purpose is the willingness of others to submit to authority and to teaching. I see a lot of young people stepping out into the world with the idea that they know everything and nothing could ever conquer them. They fail to submit to the discipline of their elders and to their godly advisers and friends. I wish that people would have the humility and honesty to admit and recognize that the day they stop learning new things is the day they die. Even after we die, the learning will never end because we will be learning everyday for eternity from the teacher of teachers, Jesus Himself. God even says in the Bible that the young and the old should learn from each other. I pray that the Children of the Lord would recognize their pride and be willing to throw it all away for the purpose of learning the truth and gaining wisdom.

What circumstances do you see that affect your goals and desires?

I echo Taylor on this:
Quote :
I'm not going to let my life be affected by worldly circumstances. I will simply do what I feel God leads me to, and whatever comes my way for it, I'll deal with it.

In Christ,
Hannah

(1) What goals in your life do you feel this forum helps you meet?

I'm hoping this forum will help me to further Christ's Kingdom and Biblical principles in our government, and to understand better how a government should be run Biblically.

(2) How does contributing to this forum assist your life's passion?

My life's passion is Jesus Christ, and I believe He should dominate every aspect of our lives, including how we vote, campaign, and, if we are serving in office, how we govern. I think this forum will help me see other Christians' points of view and to learn more about how we can honor God in our government.

(3)What concerns, or things that you see that might oppose your purpose, do you see?

Satan doesn't want us to honor God in our government (or in anything else, for that matter). One concern is that I might be tempted to be prideful because I think I know so much more about polotics than everyone else. It shouldn't be about polotics, though; it should be about God, and that's easy to forget.

(4) What circumstances do you see that affect your goals and desires?

I believe that the way government is being handled (at least in the US) is largely unbiblical. There is corruption, taxpayers' money is being used to fund abortion, and I think the government is going a lot farther than the boundaries of what the Bible says the government's job is. Many things, I think, are being handled unwisely. I would like to change that, but I want to do it for God's glory and not my own. Remembering that might be one of the hardest parts. Also, there are ways I want to serve God other than through polotics. I will need His wisdom as I grow older and make decisions about what to do.
